Illustrator, Could not complete the operations. An unknown error has occurred


when go save work on illustrator says message, "could not complete operations. unknown error has occurred"

if happens document, may time list.

 

sometimes, (certain) things may fail or stop working no apparent reason. when (other) possible reasons/cures fail work, may kind of (temporay or permanent) corruption, or inconvenient preference setting(s), may cured on following list set in attempt provide catchall solution otherwise unsolvable cases. starts few easy , harmless suggestions 1) , 2) milder cases, , goes on 2 alternative ways 3) , 4) of resetting preferences defaults (easily irreversibly , more laboriously more thoroughly , reversibly), follows list 5) of various other possibilities, , ends full reinstallation 6). if no other suggestions work, or if no other suggestions appear, may start on list , decide how far go and/or may relevant.

 

 

 

the following general list of things may try when

 

a) issue not in specific file,

b) have printer correctly installed, connected, , turned on if physical printer (you may use adobe pdf/acrobat distiller default printer no need have printer turned on, need specify when need print on paper), and

c) not caused issues opening file external media (see @ bottom).

 

you may have tried/done of them already; 1) , 2) easy ones temporary strangenesses, , 3) , 4) aimed @ possibly corrupt/inconvenient preferences); 5) list in itself, , 6) last resort.

 

if possible/applicable, should save current artwork first, of course.

 

1) close down illy , open again;

2) restart computer (you may @ least 5 times);

 

3) close down illy , press ctrl+alt+shift/cmd+option+shift during startup (easy irreversible);

4) move folder (follow link name) illy closed (more tedious more thorough , reversible), cs3 - cc may find folder here:

5) through , try out relevant among other options (follow link name, item 7) list of usual suspects among other applications may disturb , confuse illy, item 15) applies cc, cs6, , maybe cs5);

 

even more seriously, may:

 

6) a) uninstall (ticking box delete preferences if applicable), b) run cleaner tool (if have cs3/cs4/cs5/cs6/cc), , c) reinstall. important use full 3 step way: otherwise, things may linger.
