InDesign CS 5.5 file can't be edited in current version of software?

i created book in indesign cs 5.5 , have saved files in idml format. told person looking edit files can't open/edit files because version of software created in old. assume using current version of indesign. true, or should able open cs 5.5 file (either original or idml file) , edit it?

no, it's not true. latest version of indesign should able open older files. did tell happens when tried open file?

just installed acrobat 11.0.13 on windows 7 sp 1 ultimate 64-bit machine.  when try run, > check updates, error below.  happening on several machines.  in domain group policy not restrict updates.  have tried running acrobat "run administrator" , have tried running update service administrator.  no luck.     common acrobat nonsense, there not policy acrobat !!! just missing unnecessary adobe arm !!! this time when see stupid error message installer, not install updater as  !!! but avoid annoying offer update usefulness acrobat dc (ok adobe give try, respect effort, no more reader (sorry adobe !!!) remove complete adobe arm folder, acrobat not need , loose nothing of functionality !!! however paid acrobat xi pro , not need degradation it  dc !!!
