Looking to move to Lightroom but having performance issues (coming from Picasa)

i've starting shooting in raw thought time move picasa.  decided make move lightroom yesterday i've been taking few online courses in , love fact offers great raw editing capabilities , doubles organizer well.

my current workflow this:

• photos dslr manually moved new directory under photos folder.  structure of folder follows following format: "yyyy-mm-dd-{photographer name}-short subject description"
• my photos phone automatically copied same location "yyyy-mm-dd" format whenever come range of wifi network.  go in once week fill in blanks.
• i've used method on 12 years technology changes , metadata not easy transfer between apps @ least, have directory structure fall on.  has served me , continue it.  i've got great memory took x photos in fall of 2005 can find want.  i'm kind of family photographer called on enough pull photos them.
• when open, picasa recognizes new folder has been added photo direction , builds previews me.
• using picasa, can scroll down , see photos.  picasa groups photos folder it's easy see specific date/event starts , ends.
• photo directory backed cloud.  deletes cached 30 days no risk of losing accident when working folders directly.

 

so imported 50,000 images lightroom yesterday.  did xmp sidecar thing + 1:1 renders. let run overnight finish off , i'm in position have images in 1 big page, not sorted folder (by filename) , painfully slow scroll through of them.  i've optimized catalog, increased cache 30gb.  pc i7 16gb of ram , os on ssd drive while lr , cache run off 7200rpm drive.

 

i've read should move things separate catalogs speed performance coming situation instantly , available seems huge downgrade me.   i've read should create collections stuff seems lot of work i'm not sure because performance sluggish.

 

i've read should archive old photos explained above, routinely need access stuff 10-15 years ago it's best have around.  additionally, seems there issues latest version of lightroom maybe i've come @ bad time? 

 

is there way picasa folder organizing / viewing , performance lightroom through plugins?

 

i'm not knocking lr here, genuinely use (the photo adjustments fantastic)  it's hard have pay money seems laggy.

 

recommendations/solutions appreciated! thanks.

what version of lightroom? operating system?

 

what disk lightroom catalog file stored on? mean every 1 of 50,000 photos in 1 big folder?
