updating to CS4 from CS3 - installer hangs and uninstall now says bad install database.

i have been trying day cs3 updated cs4.

 

a) cs3 still working, (at least 1 program checked). able deactivate morning, , reactivate while ago.

 

b) tried google , read this: installer freezes | checking system profile | cs4, photoshop elements 8

 

c) have turned off many things, still not able update.

 

d) , seems community (many thanks) rather official support - adobe support (as sent me way, rather "support"). i.e., not sure "talking" too, need/want protect privacy, etc.

delete caps.db , backups.

Error: 100600 Update failed, updates have been disabled by your system policy

just installed acrobat 11.0.13 on windows 7 sp 1 ultimate 64-bit machine.  when try run, > check updates, error below.  happening on several machines.  in domain group policy not restrict updates.  have tried running acrobat "run administrator" , have tried running update service administrator.  no luck.     common acrobat nonsense, there not policy acrobat !!! just missing unnecessary adobe arm !!! this time when see stupid error message installer, not install updater as  !!! but avoid annoying offer update usefulness acrobat dc (ok adobe give try, respect effort, no more reader (sorry adobe !!!) remove complete adobe arm folder, acrobat not need , loose nothing of functionality !!! however paid acrobat xi pro , not need degradation it  dc !!!
