Random Gray Lines in Placed Text

hello there,

 

i'm working on placing word document of manuscript indesign cc. spent hours upon hours getting text document formatted right place without having else. dismay, of poems i'm placing showing random gray lines interspersed throughout text box. more troubling, when export pdf, lines flat out black. how rid of these? if there way efficiently in indesign without having modify original text document, ideal. attaching screenshots below. in advance help!

 

 

those paragraph rules (rule below, in case), , evidently have empty paragraphs used add space instead of using space before or space after spread paragraphs apart.
