Better way of building this menu

i've built menu system using composition widget, can seen here: home. although menu works issue usability 1 - if hover on red flame icon activate menu below move mouse @ 45 degree angle down select 'means of escape' example, rollover activates menu item. moving mouse down not activate menu item (moving on green icon example).

 

the top level , bottom level 2 separate compositions. there appears enough of delay when moving mouse between them (passing on item below) not activated, enabling me select items menu.

 

as see it, issue moving mouse left or right when hovering on icon - moving , down fine. so, there better way of building function i'd like? small delay happens when mouse passes on item (without activating it) appears fine vertically not horizontally.
