how do I include network files in Lightroom

adobe seems discourage, not quite eliminate, using network storage device 1 of sources library. (these days, seems severe, , anachronistic, constraint.) can't use program without including folders on network drive. recommendations or suggestions? during trial period, seemed not store , record photos on network drive.

are able pick file import window under "select source" >> "other source"  

you can navigate folder on network using explorer/finder , try import few pics
