How to keep scanned images the original size?

i want digitize doll pattern i've drafted, facial features.

 

i've scanned in 'head' use template when place or drag scan illustrator it's huge. know can resize image , keep scale however, need exact size or wont fit rest of pattern.

 

why appear big , how can prevent/remedy this?

illy shows image @ 72 ppi.

 

you can scale fit original resolution, , size original size.

 

if image scanned @ 300 ppi, click , scale 24% (100*72/300).

 

for 600 ppi, scale 12%.

 

you can use object>transform>scale values, or can add *0.24 (or *0.12) in w or h box in transform platte , press ctrl/cmdenter scale proportionally.
