Save as pdf - pdf remains open

hey all. have wanted know why happens...

 

basically, when save illustrator file pdf, why .ai file disappear?

 

i saved pdf last night , afterwards, made new changes thought .ai file still had open, discover changes being saved pdf. morning, opened .ai file , found lost changes made last night! had reassemble whole thing based on pdf had exported.


is there setting ensure .ai file remains active one?

use save copy instead of save when doing save.

just installed acrobat 11.0.13 on windows 7 sp 1 ultimate 64-bit machine.  when try run, > check updates, error below.  happening on several machines.  in domain group policy not restrict updates.  have tried running acrobat "run administrator" , have tried running update service administrator.  no luck.     common acrobat nonsense, there not policy acrobat !!! just missing unnecessary adobe arm !!! this time when see stupid error message installer, not install updater as  !!! but avoid annoying offer update usefulness acrobat dc (ok adobe give try, respect effort, no more reader (sorry adobe !!!) remove complete adobe arm folder, acrobat not need , loose nothing of functionality !!! however paid acrobat xi pro , not need degradation it  dc !!!
