Adobe Reader out of date?

i have adobe reader , trying read documents sent me . got pop-upfrom adobe telling me system/reader out of date , no longer open documents , needed download adobe acrobat dc. did , fantastic have buy $200!. have experience this?

it sounds downloaded wrong product. don't want adobe acrobat. want adobe acrobat reader (the free product).

 

uninstall acrobat , install reader here: adobe acrobat reader dc install versions

just installed acrobat 11.0.13 on windows 7 sp 1 ultimate 64-bit machine.  when try run, > check updates, error below.  happening on several machines.  in domain group policy not restrict updates.  have tried running acrobat "run administrator" , have tried running update service administrator.  no luck.     common acrobat nonsense, there not policy acrobat !!! just missing unnecessary adobe arm !!! this time when see stupid error message installer, not install updater as  !!! but avoid annoying offer update usefulness acrobat dc (ok adobe give try, respect effort, no more reader (sorry adobe !!!) remove complete adobe arm folder, acrobat not need , loose nothing of functionality !!! however paid acrobat xi pro , not need degradation it  dc !!!
