i have seen few short films on youtube, use after effects create super powers. wanted same on similar project, there tutorials on how done using latest version of after effects? thanks

there zillion ways create super powers. it's layers , blend modes. may involve rotoscoping or keying. trying accomplish. link video or simple screenshot of video give someplace start. 1 uses stock footage of fire or creates fire particle system doesn't come ae, rotoscope, glow , lighting effects can done shape layers blurs, opacity , blend modes, stock footage of smoke or fractal noise masks, blurs , blend modes, , excellent pre-production planning , photography. there's lot going on here:

when trying replicate effect have start breaking down shot layers , come ways create images on each layer. here see background layer actor on left , else, glow effects on lights in background, fire effects on @ least 1 layer, smoke effects on layer above fire layer, actor on right, overlaid fire on actor 's hands , smoke layer on top of everything.

 

everything pretty basic compositing in shot. techniques learn rotoscope or rotobrush separate footage layers, blend modes, creating smoke, basic compositing, using opacity , if camera moving you'll need learn tracking. if teach shot bunch of beginners in classroom situation take week, 5 class periods,  go on of fundamentals , expect hour of home work every night.

beware of youtube tutorials , make sure person giving advice knows doing. not give efficient workflows , many can corner , waste bunch of time.
